TV Actress Shalini Announces Divorce from Abusive Husband, Urges Women to Leave Toxic Marriages

TV actress Shalini, also known as Viji from ‘Valli Thirumanam’ and ‘Mulluma Malarum’ fame, has announced her divorce from her husband, Riaz.

Shalini, who got married in July 2020 and welcomed a daughter named Riya, made the announcement through a unique photoshoot and message on social media. She encouraged women to leave a bad marriage if they are unhappy, saying divorce is not a failure but a turning point in life.

Shalini had accused Riaz of physical and mental abuse, leading to their decision to part ways. The actress had also participated in the reality show ‘Super Mom’.

Shalini, a popular TV actress known for roles in Tamil soap operas, took to Instagram to announce that she was ending her one-year marriage to Riaz. She posted photos of herself and Riya, saying she did not want her daughter to grow up in a toxic environment.

Shalini urged women to put an end to abusive relationships and prioritize their happiness. “A divorce may be difficult, but living with an abusive partner is more difficult. I want all women to know that you are strong and you deserve to be happy,” she said.

The actress had accused Riaz of physically assaulting her on multiple occasions and tormenting her mentally. She said the abuse had intensified after the birth of their daughter. Shalini claimed that Riaz did not allow her to meet her friends or family and tried to isolate her.

Facing a difficult situation, Shalini decided to leave the marriage for the well-being of her daughter. She has sought sole custody of Riya and plans to raise her as a single mother.

The announcement has garnered support from women’s rights groups and Shalini’s fans and colleagues in the Tamil film industry. Many have lauded her courage in speaking up against domestic violence and choosing her daughter over an abusive marriage.
