Pathu Thala Box Office Collection: Simbu’s Film Faces Tough Competition from Viduthalai

Simbu’s latest film Pathu Thala, a remake of the Kannada hit Mufti, has opened to positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. The film, directed by Obeli N Krishna, also stars Gautham Karthik, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Anu Sithara in pivotal roles. The film revolves around the clash between an undercover cop (Gautham Karthik) and a ruthless gangster (Simbu).

Pathu Thala, which was released on March 30, has reportedly collected around Rs 14 crore in two days at the worldwide box office. The film had a decent opening in Tamil Nadu, where it earned around Rs 7 to 8 crore on its first day, beating Dhanush’s Vaathi, which had collected around Rs 6 crore on its opening day. However, the film faced a steep decline on its second day, as it minted only Rs 6 crore. The makers of Pathu Thala announced that the film had the career-best opening for Simbu.

The reason for the drop in Pathu Thala’s box office collection is attributed to the strong performance of Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai Part 1, which was released on March 31. The film, starring Soori and Vijay Sethupathi in lead roles, has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. The film has reportedly collected over Rs 10 crore on its first day and is expected to grow further over the weekend.

Pathu Thala will have to face tough competition from Viduthalai as well as Nani’s Dasara, which is also doing well across the country. The film will have to rely on positive word-of-mouth and good reviews to sustain at the box office. Pathu Thala marks Simbu’s third consecutive hit after Maanaadu and Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu. The film has music by AR Rahman and cinematography by Selvakumar SK.
